Bighorn Sheep

Bighorn Sheep in Borrego.

We are traveling to Santee Lakes today, thus the short post.  I am amazed at the number and variety of birds I have seen here at Santee in just a short period of time before dark.  I am really excited about the next few days - heck, we had a few beautiful wood ducks walk right up to us as we got here!

Oregon Phone Book

Here is another recent cover image for the Gresham, Sandy and Troutdale Phone Book.  This image is of the Vista House overlooking the Columbia River.  This Columbia Gorge area along the Columbia River in Oregon is very photogenic.

After a long day and a half of travel, I’m now at the NANPA Conference and hope to provide updates when I can.

Rock Ptarmagain

This Rock Ptarmigan was photographed in Denali National Park.  I have included it here only because I thought it was a nice winter bird photo, not becuase it was seen in Seward, Alaska.  I have seen numerous Ptarmigain around Seward, but usually Willow Ptarmigain.

If my birding ability could ski, it would just now be venturing onto the intermediate blue square slopes, but I am an eager learner.  (more…)

Snowshoeing Photos

Here is one more snowshoeing photo.  As you can see, only part of Turnagain Pass receives any sunlight this time of year, and this only lasts for about two hours.  Hopefully the trees will still look like this in March when this area receives hours of great sunlight.

Snowshoeing

About a week ago I wrote of the beautiful snow in Turnagain Pass, and mentioned I would be heading there with my snowshoes on the next nice day.  Well yesterday was that day.  It was a beautiful - well except for the 16 degrees below zero temperature.  I don’t know how much snow is up there, but the Alyeska Ski Resort not far away received 24 feet of snow in December.  I’m sure Turnagain Pass received its fair share.  (more…)

Travel Plans

Anza-Borrego State Park, California.

As fascinating as it might be to read about the Redpolls outside my window - LOL - ( by the way, we are now getting over a 100 Redpolls at a time, and yesterday out of the clear blue, over 50 Gray-Crowned Rosy-Finch landed in the yard! ) - when I started this blog I envisioned using it more for things like trip reports and location updates.  Since we travel so much, I thought this could provide interesting material.  Well because of some assignment commitments, we have yet to travel since starting this blog - I think this has been our longest stretch ever in the office.  (more…)
