Richard Moquin of team Bazi at the 2009 24 Hours of Moab Mountain Bike Race, Moab, Utah.
I thought I would share a couple of photos from the 24 Hours of Moab Mountain Bike Race. I’m here to photograph Pua Sawicki, who we met in our campground – we have camped near them the last two years here in Moab. Her husband and crew have been running me around on all terrain vehicles so that I can photograph her on the course – I’ll post photos of her tomorrow. Right now, she is over a half hour ahead of the nearest women, and looking strong. She is hoping to set the world record for distance traveled on a mountain bike trail in 24 hours.

That top photo is fantastic! The oranges and yellows blend beautifully. What settings did you use for this?
I love the anonymous “could be anyone” feel of the top photo. Makes even a non rider want to ride. Nice.
Agree – that top photo is fantastic. The dust kicking up off the back tyre really brings it alive.
Thanks a lot everyone!
Scott – this was with a 100-400 at 400 shooting right into the setting sun. Nothing fancy on the settings. ISO 800 320 of a second and f/18. Actually, I hate to share those – I should have opened up to f/8 and used a faster speed, but I was playing around with some flash shots when I saw this scene develop, and did correct my settings for this image – I did on some of the subsequent ones, they didn’t have as strong of a composition.
I just love, love, LOVE that top photo! Way cool, Ron!!!
Thanks Tawny!
Another couple of fantastic images! I really like how these are atypical of what you would usually see from this sport.
Thanks Chris!
Dang, Ron, that first image is awesome!
Thanks Laurent!
