Aialik Sunrise

Sunrise over Aialik Glacier, Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska.

I photographed this from the boat during last weekends Alaska photo tour into Kenai Fjords – this is where we anchored for the first night!  And if this view wasn’t enough – we could spot bears on the nearby beach!  This is the same beach we went to shore on and photographed bears and icebergs.

Unlike the cruise-ships, my tour doesn’t offer a formal night – that is unless jeans and xtra-tough boots count as formal ware. :)   But, I think this kind of view more then makes up for it!

Nice Ron! Was the boat still enough to use a tripod and long exposure?

Very beautiful capture Ron

Thanks!

@ Richard No, I had to hand hold. But with an IS lens and 800 ISO it wasn’t too bad. I would have liked to gone to shore, but was afraid the light would be gone by the time I got there.

Who needs a formal night! Give me jeans and t-shirt and a view like this any time! Superb!

I agree! Thanks Noella!

I’m with Noella too. Not only who needs them, but who wants them!

Spot on, Joni. I’d rather view the wildlife than compete in the social life. I’m not knocking those who enjoy a chance to dress formally, but the easy mateship sitting around a camp fire or a meal table somewhere sharing experiences of the day’s adventures is one the greatest joys in life for me.

Hi Ron
Just looked through the photos from Denali as well as other shots from this summer. Your photos continue to fill me with awe. Although I am fortunate to be in some of the places you photograph, you photograph only the finest. What patience you have; and an artist’s eye.
Sorry we missed seeing you this summer. Perhaps our paths will cross next year.

Hi Ann,

Thank you so much for the kind words! I can’t believe our paths didn’t cross this year. Seems like I only made it out to Exit Glacier a handful of times this summer, and usually after of before hours. I hope to see you guys next summer – enjoy your winter!
