Alaska Railroad

Alaska Railroad

Yesterday I did an assignment for the Alaska Railroad.  Whether it involves riding the train, or following it in a helicopter, Alaska Railroad assignments are always one of my favorites!  The scenery between here and Anchorage is so beautiful that it really makes my job much easier.  Now using multiple flashes in a dome rail car where reflections show up where you least expect – that isn’t as easy.

Janine and I spent a very short night in Anchorage and then rode the train back to Seward today.  I think that is the first time I have been on board where I wasn’t shooting – now I can see why that trip is so popular – it was really fun and relaxing!

  1. It does look like a relaxing way to travel – no airline hassels, baggage restrictions, traffic jams… I think there should be more trains!

  3. This is a classic photo. I could see this being on the cover of an old Milton Bradley board game or something. 🙂 Did you set up softboxes and other lighting gear, or just bounce flash for this? Looks like a fun trip.

    Thanks Richard!

I had a diffuser on the on camera flash and bounced that off the ceiling. Then I had Janine handholding a wireless flash off to the left so that the lady in orange would receive plenty of light without the gentlemen up close receiving too much, and to fill in shadows. Those little wireless flashes are nice.
