American Kestrel

American Kestrel

I think this is a beautiful falcon.  He has been hunting around our campsite in Borrego at least once a day since we arrived here.  Friday, I was finally able to photograph him!  I noticed he often returned to this specific cactus, so Friday I set up on it and waited.  It worked!  I also have some full frame closeups, but kind of prefer this version which shows more cactus.

I have seen these guys in Denali on numerous occasions, but have been unable to get close enough for a descent image.  It is fun to watch a bird like this up close.

That is a beautiful Falcon. Great photogragh.I remember seeing them several times when we would leave California and drive around Arizona. My Dad was a wildlife Ranger for a long time, & he loved to take us outdoors all the time. I guess that’s why I love animals & the outdoors so much. My Mom was the exact opposite. She was the hotel type. I love to just lay outside & look at the stars.

Gorgeous bird and photo Ron. I’ve always loved the kestrels too, never could get very close to them myself. I’d like to see the full frame shot, they have such a beautiful pattern and colors.
Nice work, keep ‘em coming:)

Hi Beth, that explains a lot of your interests! Thanks for sharing.

Hey Dave – this guy is nothing like the ones I have seen in Alaska!

Beautiful, Ron. I’ve seen one of these guys only once and of all places at the Buenos Aires Nat Wildlife Reserve.

Thanks Laurent. Interesting, didn’t know these guys ranged that far.
