I realized all the photos I have been posting from my week with the brown bears of Lake Clark National Park have been more of the animal in the landscape which tends to be my favorite type of wildlife image. So today, I thought I would do a nice close up of a beautiful, big brown bear!
Speaking of bears, our August photo tour has sold out, and there are just a few spots left for our June bear photo tour for next summer – for more information see: bear and puffin photography tour.

Beautiful shot again Ron, I love the colors and the “motion” in a photo a lot – beautiful.
That’s just a beautiful bear and -shot! I love close-ups! 🙂 (P.s: I wonder why you got a comment in Norwegian, above here. :P)

Thanks a lot everyone, I appreciate it!
@ Renate – thanks for the referral!
Another nice shot with beautiful lighting. What aperture did you use here? I recall with bears you may have to use a higher aperture to get both the nose and eyes in focus.
Such a gorgeous bear, and the light on the fur is awesome!
Now that IS close-up! I could reach into the photo and touch the fur! Brilliant photo!

Thanks a lot!
@ Scott This was @ f/8. I was using a 600 f/4 with a 1.4 x converter, so I already had enough DOB wide open but stopped down slightly for sharpness.
