Canyonlands View

by Ron on October 9, 2009

Green River overlook, Canyonlands National Park, Utah.

Self portrait, Green River overlook, Canyonlands National Park, Utah.

This is the last light of day at one of my favorite Canyonlands viewpoints.  The warm light was really making the red rock glow – I actually used Photoshop to desaturate this image as it didn’t look realistic.

There was no way Janine was going to get out on this point, so I set everything up, changed jackets with her, and had her hit the shutter as I stood on the viewpoint.

Ron, you could use a Pocket Wizard to get this sort of thing on your own, then Janine wouldn’t have to work like a slave getting these glamour shots of you.

Janine Niebrugge October 9, 2009 at 8:16 am

LOL, thank you Phil, a voice of reason among us! :)

LOL. I even had some Pocket Wizards back in the truck – had I known I was going to be feeling glamorous, I would have brought them and saved Janine from the difficult job of pushing the little button. :)

Hey Ron,

Pocket Wizard = couple hundred bucks
Wife like Janine = priceless.

This is killer. I’d almost have opted against the red jacket in this situation, but it really pops.

Great photo.

Cheers

Wow, Janine I always knew you had talent. Now Ron can sleep in and you can shoot the photos! Good job.

Crazy Ron! I bet Janine was just as nervous for you as if she had been out there. I know that is how I would react.

The shot is great. The colors and all are mind blowing but I love the little wisp of cloud right at the top. Nice work Janine!

It’s a neat photo but I am not sure if I would of been out on the rock either. Anyway beautiful photo with bravery Ron

Nice grand scenic and sense of scale thanks to you being the brave one. Red rock country is amazing how they look unreal and need to be desaturated. I shot some Velvia in red rock country years ago and didn’t show a thing from it as it too looked unreal! Love how this looks!

I was at Canyonlands in May and saw some photographers climbing over the railings to get great shots. No way I was going to do that!

I had difficulty working on my Utah pics as everything looked so orange and red.

I trust you did Rt. 128 east of Moab. Great spots along there too. Are you going to post any?

Joni October 10, 2009 at 10:08 am

Are you heading to Flagstaff and Sedona by any chance? Aspens turn later in the season there.

Ron October 11, 2009 at 2:00 pm

I don’t think we will make it there on this trip, but have in the past – that area is great in the fall!

Thanks,

Ron

We haven’t made it out the 128 yet – hopefully this week!
