The last time we went running on this trail, the people just a head of us had run into a bear. It was hard not to forget this fact when we arrived at the trail-head at 4:45 a.m. and found it almost pitch dark! For some reason I thought we would have some light. [click to continue…]

We have been seeing a fair amount of Colorado Columbine wildflowers at higher elevations – above 7,000 feet. They are a beautiful wildflower. Unfortunately there are very few wildflowers here this year. Like most of the west, it is extremely dry.

After photographing the barn in yesterday’s post, I noticed some buffalo heading towards one of the other barns. I waited, and sure enough they eventually past in front of this barn. This was about two hours after sunrise.

I know I’m not the first person to photograph this barn, but how could I pass up such a beautiful scene!

The Yellow-Bellied Marmots around here are similar looking, but have different coloring from the Hoary Marmot we have in Alaska.

What would a trip to Yellowstone National Park be without a photo of the Old Faithful Geyser! I now have a bunch. That is the famous and historic Old Faithful Inn on the right. Look how empty the boardwalk is in the morning, I think there are 3 people down there - nothing like the afternoon. This is one image out of 4 that will eventually make a panoramic of the Upper Geyser Basin.

Morning Glory Pool has to be one of the most colorful features in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. It is a nice easy mile walk down a paved trail from Old Faithful.

Buffalo calves are really fun to watch. They often stand or lay around doing nothing, then without warning, they will take off running in circles, jumping and leaping about like they just won the lottery - it can be very entertaining!

This is looking at a group of bison and straight into the sun at sunrise in Yellowstone National Park on Thursday - the sun is just above the frame. The below freezing temperatures enhanced the mist and fog.
