Denali

Mt. Mc Kinley, Denali National Park, Alaska.

I’m back from a wonderful week and a half in Denali National Park.  At first, I thought I had missed the peak fall colors, and I might have in a couple of areas of the park, but for the most part, the colors were amazing.  I can’t believe how that countryside is transformed in the autumn!

This was from my first night – one of many in which I had amazing light to go with the wonderful scenery.

Besides the color, I spent a lot of time pursuing the wildlife.  The wildlife wasn’t as plentiful as it has been in the past, but I still was able to photograph wolves, lynx, fox, a huge caribou and numerous moose.  I’m definitely worn out – but that is a good thing!

Amazing colors Ron and the view of the peak is superb.

I echo Russ’ comment. Amazing. Looking forward to seeing some moose photos (moose are my favorite…I’m heading to Grand Teton NP in just over a week and hope to see some there)

Who says you need trees for fall color? Wonderful photo, Ron!

Thanks so much everyone!

I re-calibrated my monitor and think I over saturated this – but, you get the idea, it was amazing!

Vera September 8, 2011 at 4:28 am

Eye candy. Wow.

WOW! Just when you think it can’t get any better……..it DOES! Great shot Ron! Just got back from a trip through your old home town, heading to Valdez. Geez, I never knew it was such a BEAUTIFUL drive!!! The trees were like sunshine on a stick!! I’m sure glad you got to the park during the PEAK time! I must admit, after seeing it a week or so ago, I was afraid you were going to miss it. Apparently you hit it PERFECTLY….. Jackpot. Can’t wait to see some of your other photos.

What a magnificent color palette! :-) The photo’s a real energy booster!

Glad to see that you didn’t miss the brushstrokes of fall! :-) The leaves have just started to turn red (etc.) here, but the switch nearly happens over night, so I’d better have my camera ready! ;-)

Ron September 8, 2011 at 4:03 pm

Thanks Vera!

@ Terry I agree – that can be a very beautiful drive – I loved it out there this time of year, and the mountains along the Glenn and Richardson Highway are awesome! You are right, I think I was close to missing the peak, and may have missed it out West, but it was still amazing.

@ Renate Thanks! It was a real energy booster in person as well! You are right about the colors, especially after a cold night, they can really turn fast! I hope you have a great fall!

Great photo Ron. Looks like the timing and weather cooperated well. The colors are magnificent and you got to see the mountain instead of just clouds :)

Ron September 8, 2011 at 9:01 pm

@ George – Yes, I was very fortunate for the first few days! Thanks!

Ron,

Looking at this photo…it seems weird that you were a little disappointed when you found out the dates you would be in Denali. All things work out in strange and mysterious ways – this is absolutely beautiful.
Colors are just starting to change here and I am so looking forward to it.

Thinking of you and Janine often!

Hey Teresa – great to hear from you!

You know, I did receive my first choice in dates this year – I might have second guessed my choice at some point, but I was there when I wanted to be, and it worked out great! So amazing.

We miss you and glad you and Mark are doing well!

Hey Ron,

I’m glad you mentioned re-calibrating your monitor here; this one does look a little over the top.

A great trip, it seems. Congrats, I knew you’d be loving the stuff you shot from this trip.

Cheers

Carl

Thanks Carl – yes, definitely over saturated, I need to redo.
