Desert Bighorn Sheep

Desert Bighorn Sheep

This Bighorn Sheep was just outside of Canyonlands National Park, near Moab Utah.

I had pretty good luck finding these guys in Anza Borrego and Zion last year – but I was thrilled to find them in such a beautiful setting as this!

Check out more wildlife photos.

Hi Ron,

Great shot!

Don’t know if you’re aware that the Fish & Wildlife Service has proposed cutting critical habitat for the bighorn in Anza-Borrego and the Santa Rosa/San Jacinto Mtns. If they get their way, those sheep may not be around to photograph much longer.

A blog post about this plan, with a link to the public comment form, is available here: http://snurl.com/47×7e. It also has a couple of bighorn shots.

I agree. The scenery is much more stunning here. Hanging off the cliff like that really shows it well in the environment.

Thanks everyone!

I wasn’t aware of that issue Larry, thanks for the link, I will have to read further. Is this because of the power-line, or is this something different?

Uh yeah… wow. Great image, great composition, great color, great subject. But then again, it’s what I’ve come to expect from you.

Hey Ron,

Nice photo. I was kinda hoping it might be a lynx, though, perhaps. :)

Cheers
