Double O Arch

Janine stands in the lower arch of Double O Arch, Arches National Park, Utah.

I realized I have posted a number of photos from Arches National Park, but none of them included an actual arch.  So here is two for one photo.  Visiting Double O arch requires about a 5 mile round trip hike through some wonderful country known as Devils Garden.  With must see detours to Navajo and Partition Arches, the hike ends up being about 6 miles.

Yesterday we picked up a rental jeep and are heading out for three days on the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park.  We found out last year that the limited number of camping sites along this amazing road fill way in advance, so we made back-country campsite reservations last Spring.  We have been looking forward to this trip for a long time – everyone raves about this area, I should have an update here Monday night or Tuesday morning.

It’s great to see all your Arches and Canyonlands images as those are the two major SW parks I haven’t been to. Really great image here and I can’t wait to see the stuff from the White Rim Trail. Have a great trip!

Wonderful to see your images of this area. It brings back so many memories as I stayed in Moab some years ago . I was delighted as ” more than middle-aged” and overweight I made it up to the Delicate Arch. My photo of the arch is on our wall as I write !!

Hey Ron,

Have a great trip, man.

Lovely light, and the scale with Janine makes this pop. Very cool.

Cheers

Great framing. Had to really look for her for a second. But once I found her your placement makes perfect sense.

Beautiful light. What time of day was this taken?

Amazing scene Ron. Arches is one of the most interesting places in my opinion.

Ron….what an amazing image this ! It is by far the best pic of Double-O-Arch that I have seen till date. Not many go thru the trouble of a 5 or 6 mile trek to get the perfect shot. Must say that all your pics from Moab have been great including the one above from Canyonlands West Rim of the star trail. You seems to have had great success in the last couple of months in Colorado & Utah.

Any plans to cover to Bryce & Zion NP’s during this trip ?

Thanks a lot everyone!

Scott, this was at 4:45 p.m. The sun was just about to leave this area, at least this time of year.

Swapnil, I don’t think we will make it to Bryce or Zion on this trip. We spent a fair amount of time in Zion a couple of years ago – love that area! We might stop by the Northern part of the park (Kolob), but that would probably be it for this trip.
