Dream Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.
This was the result of a early morning hike in the dark -I think it was definitely worth it!
Janine was given a bit of a bad time for not being up for our first morning here in Colorado at Mount Evans – all in fun of course. To be fair, my super model has been there every morning and evening since, I thought I should add some photo proof!

I used a two stop hard edge graduated neutral density filter for both images. The top image was captured at ISO 100 and f/11 for .5 second. The bottom one was ISO 100, f/16 for .8 second. I stopped down a bit more for the lower image since my subject was much closer – I needed more depth of field.

Thanks Scott!
Nice work Ron, your images are inspiring!
I figured you had used a grad nd filter but sure couldn’t tell. I may have to pull mine back out. I usually rely on Lightroom to pull the sky back in, but sometimes it just seems to work better if you get it to right to start with.
I’ve never been to Colorado, always thought I’d never leave once I got there though.

Thanks Tom,
I still prefer using the filters over post-processing myself, but I must admit, it would be nice to ditch them. Colorado is awfully nice – it doesn’t replace Alaska for me, but it would be a desirable place to live that’s for sure.
A classic Ron. Getting up in the morning is one thing, getting up to hike is another. Definitely worth the effort.

Great images, Ron. The warm light on those mountains is beautiful. Nice job framing those 3 rocks for a leading line.
