Exit Glacier Cave

Exit Glacier Cave

Exit Glacier, Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska.

A friend and I found this ice cave last weekend.  The really cool thing about this cave; there appeared to be an opening in the roof near the back of the cave.  This opening allowed some light to illuminate the back of the cave, and that helped to back lite the ice making it really glow.  It is an amazing sight.

Exit Glacier is really melting and changing fast, I wouldn’t be surprised if this cave is already gone.  It is a real treat to live so close to such a marvel of nature – I really hope it doesn’t melt entirely!

You have been getting some really unique stuff lately Ron. If the glacier melts, hopefully not while you are still in there! Yikes.

Thanks Richard!

You are right, this was a marginal looking cave – I didn’t go in this one, I photographed it from outside.

Thanks,

Ron

It is a pretty cool place – something to add to your list for next summer!

Hey Ron,

Great work – this really captures the look of these glacier caves nicely. I need to get some images like this on the Wrangells, so I need some advice on shooting this kind of thing, and processing the images.

Cheers

Carl

Thanks Carl!

processing these images is easy because you really don’t have to do anything to them. Finding a cool cave is the hard part, there probably is a lot of them in the Wrangells.

Thanks,

Ron
