I like this! It has a nice warm glow, must be from my advanced reflector holding techniques! :)

Beautiful, great “formation” and seems like Janine is taking over the “light switch”.

Cactus detail–great colors and forms. It is catchy, grabbed my eye and made me want to look closer. A fresh, different view from the classic cactus detail images by Brett Weston and Philip Hyde.

Thanks Rolf!

Yes – you did a great job with that reflector Janine – I guess I could say you are my light!

Wow. This looks like a really interesting image, Ron. Very painterly. Did you get really close to it or used a telephoto? The times I have photographed cholla cactus I didn’t want to get too close…

Thank you very much David!

Hi Richard – I did get really close and used Live View – that made if much easier and safer! :)

Nice and different view. I’ve only been looking at your blog a few days and I am impressed, with the photos as well as the fact that it is inspiring me to get out there as I live close to the desert.

Thanks!

This could be a good year in the desert Steve, but like Tony observed, the wildflowers have a way to go. I appreciate the comments!

I can definitely see why you went for some macro action Ron, the flowers are quite late this year. I’ll try the canyons along the west edge Borrego Springs tomorrow and hopefully find more there.

There’s a good amount of green everywhere, but not too much blossoming yet. There are a few decent small spots along Coyote Canyon and the east end of Henderson Road, a few decent Ocotillio, Agave and cactus here and there down in the middle and south end of the park. But the #!@* mustard is everywhere along Henderson and into Coyote Canyon. I don’t think the flower density will ever reach the that of years past unless some way to control or eliminate the mustard is found. Quite sad really…hopefully you found some decent areas for your workshop folks to shoot.

Very, very cool Ron – have never seen these before now.

Thanks Mark!

Hi John,

Hey thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself on Sunday – it was nice to meet you in person, even if it was too brief!

I agree – the mustard has completely taken over, especailly around Henderson Canyon Road. I don’t think we will ever see this famous area bloom again like it has in the past, it is really sad.
