I did find time to photograph other birds at Santee Lakes beside the Wood Ducks, including this Great Egret. Santee Lakes was a great spot for birds. I had spent a fair amount of time in Borrego trying to get close to a Great Egret, and Double-crested Cormorants with limited success. These birds, and many others were far more approachable at Santee.
The huge Great Egret is a beautiful, graceful bird that often stood on the shoreline hunting. I liked the colorful tree where this one was perched. There were also a large number of similar looking, but much smaller Snowy Egrets.
