I did the trail alone in July 2004. Quite a workout! Bears were sited by other hikers but I never saw them. I did encounter some other wildlife including an awesome pair of mountain goats. The shot above is taken on a sunny day; many days are foggy so you may not get that kind of visibility. (I didnt). Its a very worthwhile hike that you should not miss. Take your rain gear, gloves, and big jacket for the top where its windy and cold.

Did the trail in July, beautiful views, wildlife, as described. Saw some mountain goats, the glacier was inspiring, as far as hiking in the dark, wouldn't recommend it, stopped at one section on a switchback to talk to some guys that were trying to point out a black bear when the girl that was with them almost took a dive when she got too close to the edge. She was hanging on by her armpits before they pulled her back up.
In the dark with those hazards would be asking for it.

Hi Matteo,

It is a great trail, I don't think you need to worry about falling, but you will want to watching your footing on the way down when your legs are tired.

Black bears are very common on the trail. They haven't ever given anyone any problem, but I like to make some extra noise, and if I'm by myself, I usually carry bear spray.

Have fun!

Great Hike! I would like to try this in late August.
I will be alone, please can you tell me if is it dangerous for the steep (is is possible to fall down?) and for the bears? Thank you

I just made a note of this trail in my notebook Ron for whenever I eventually get to Alaska. I love the graphical simplicity of the first shot. It certainly portrays the vastness you describe.
