Hidden Falls Trail, Grand Teton National Park

Hidden Falls is maybe the most popular hike in Grand Teton National Park.  It is on the far side of Jenny Lake, at the base of the beautiful Teton Range.  It is about half a mile from the far side of the lake, but you have a couple options to get to the far side of the Jenny Lake.  First, you could walk the 2 miles, or you can take a boat across.  Two miles isn’t very far, but I would opt for the boat, and use the time and distance saved to hike further into Cascade Canyon.  The shoreline is nice, but the canyon is much more dramatic.

Here is a secret that we stumbled upon.  The boat runs every 15 minutes from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and costs about $9 for the round trip.  But, they make one trip at 7:00 a.m. for $5 for the round trip.  They don’t have the cash registers running then, so you need to bring the cash.

It is a big advantage going that time of morning as there are very few people.  By the time we made our return trip, the boats heading out were very full – I would not want to be on the trails then.  The area across from Jenny Lake is definitely a worthwhile hike.

  1. I just returned from GTNP, etc. I took over 700 pictures with a Casio Exilm 7.2 mega pixels camera. Is there anything (program) I can do to make my pics look better?

  2. Visited GTNP and YNP for the first time this past July. We also rode the ferry over Jenny Lake and hiked up to see Hidden Falls. I loved it. It is so pretty in that area. My son and I loved the entire week. Hope to go back in 2013.

Hi Darnell – sorry I didn’t see your comment sooner. I use Photoshop, but it is an expensive, and fairly complicated program.

Hi Oz – Glad to hear you had such a great trip! That is a wonderful area.

  5. The trail around Jenny Lake is a great hike for those wanting a little adventure without being too strenuous. There are some areas that gain and lose some elevation, some areas that are slightly exposed, but overall this hike can easily be done in a morning or afternoon in hiking boots. And also don’t forget to bring a pair of trekking poles. Wildlife will often be visible in the early morning or evening. If you make it halfway around the lake and decide the walk back is too much you can take a boat ferry back to South Jenny Lake Junction.
