Las Vegas Panoramic Photo

Las Vegas Panoramic.

Normally my blog posts are almost in real time.  Usually I prepare the post the same day I take the photo, and post to the blog the next morning.  Well I must admit Zion has been the exception.  We left Zion about a week ago, as soon as the fall colors faded, but I continued to post photos as if I was still there because we had some much fun and I had a lot I wanted to share!

Well after Zion, we spent a few days in Las Vegas – there were a few more places I wanted to photograph.  Now we are in Palm Springs meeting with clients, and preparing to return back to Alaska.

Last winter I spent a lot of time looking for new locations for Las Vegas panromics.  I shot from a few of those locations last spring, but later as I compared my new photos to older Las Vegas panoramics, I realized that the light on the pyramid (The Luxor) was turned off, making the shots pretty much useless.  I wanted to shot the location earlier in this trip, but wind or smog kept it from being an option.  I have found I need to have perfectly calm air since I’m using a large 600mm telephoto along with a 2x’s converter, and long exposure times.  I have even stacked bean bags on the lens without success.  This night I was nice and calm.

I like this location because I’m able to include the Stratosphere without the image being too long.  It is really hard to see much in this tiny version, here is a larger version.  The actual photo is extremely large and is made up of 8 separate images.

Here are more Las Vegas Photos.

nice work Ron. the 1200mm sounds like a nightmarish shoot particularly in these light conditions.
