National Bowling Stadium, Reno, Nevada
While wandering around Reno last week, I was surprised to read the signage on one of the largest buildings in downtown Reno - it said “National Bowling Stadium”. I thought, surely a building this large couldn’t be all for bowling, there must be more going on in there. We had to go inside to investigate. Sure enough, this was one huge bowling ally! Along with the large stadium seating, there were 80 separate bowling lanes! Maybe this is one of those places that everyone knows about except me, but it sure surprised me!

Nice find Ron! Were you able to bring a tripod in there? I get a little self-conscious sometimes bringing tripods out in crowded places.

WOW I’m with your, I would not have believed it! that is a lot of bowling lanes!
I bet if i ask my husband when he gets home he will say oh yea i knew about that LOL he grew up in a family that bowled a lot!

Yeah Richard, I’m often self conscious about carrying a tripod in a place like this as well. Actually I went in first without one just to see what was going on and no one really paid any attention to me, so I went back with my tripod and quietly climbed into the stands. Again no one even noticed, so I shot fast!
I bet you are right Doris. I want to ask some of my bowling friends about it - I would think it is famous. I was tempted to bowl there just because it was such an amazing place!

Yeah, you could fit 40 dreamlands in there!
We are camped near some of the guys racing in the drag races this weekend - I forget the names - I will have to go read it of the side of there trailers tomorrow. There is a father son down here from North Pole Alaska racing as well.

Hey DB, looks like the guys here for the races - have moved on to the track. At least I think they were here for the races, otherwise it would seem weird to have a giant trailer with you name painted on the side!

Ron I did see in the Anch Paper weeks ago where an Alaskan qualified for a NHRA national event, all because the Palmer race track got NHRA certified hope he does well, Maybe I will take the green Z up next spring before fishing

I bowled at the National bowling stadium this summer - The facility is used mostly for tournament events with either the PBA or USBC (PBA = Professional Bowlers Association), (USBC = United States Bowling Congress).
It’s quite an experience to roll in that facility, most local bowling alleys have much lower ceilings - but, as you can see there, you’re just an ant on a globe there…doesn’t seem like it would make that much of a difference, but it does!!
I actually placed 600th out of 16000 entries in the division I bowled in - wasn’t worth a LOT, but, a few dollars… ($150 or so..)

Wow that is a lot of bowling lanes in one building. I can’t imagine the amount of noise when a tournament was in full swing. Great picture by the way. it really shows the enormity of the building. The next time i am in Reno i will have to go there.
