Peninsular Desert Bighorn Sheep

Peninsular Desert Bighorn Sheep

Peninsular Desert Bighorn Sheep, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California.

We spotted and photographed these guys yesterday afternoon in Borrego Palm Canyon.  I have read some estimates that place the population of the subspecies of Desert Bighorn at only 280 animals.  I look forward to photographing these guys amongst the desert wildflowers.

Ron, it amazes me that you run into these guys every year. I rarely see them even though I live very close to their habitat (well, the Desert subspecies).

Wow, what a prize Ron. I too have visited many times and never had the opportunity to see these guys in person. Those are some serious horns.

Thanks guys!

I have been really lucky – they are nearly impossible to see if they don’t move. We were fortunate enough to see some up Coyote Canyon while heading for a run the day before – I have never seen them up there.

Really great scenery, Ron. I didn’t realize there were so few left.

I go to Anza-Borrego all the time, too and have never seen them there. You are charmed.
