Portage Lake Ice

Portage Lake

Portage Lake, Chugach National Forest, Alaska.

I liked the patterns formed by the ice on Portage Lake as it broke up.  It was kind of like a huge jig-saw puzzle.

This is nice. When I drove by Portage Lake last weekend it was just breaking up. I almost stopped, but I was in a hurry to get home… should’a stopped:( When did you shoot this? Take care.

Hey Dave,

This was on May 4th on my way to Cordova. Unfortunately I only had a quick minute before the tunnel opened or I would have missed the ferry. I would think the ice might be mostly gone by now.

Thanks,

Ron

That’s a pretty wild photo! It looks like some kind strange geometric art. I love it. I bet the sound would be awesome. I would love to see that sometime! Really cool photo! Stay safe!

Hi Beth,

Thanks a lot! You will have to visit Alaska someday!

Looks like a great spot Ron. I imagine I could spend hours here just with the patterns as I like this kind of stuff.

I agree Mark. To have played around with compositions with alpenglow mountains reflecting in the water with he blue ice – man that could have been cool.
