Red-necked Grebe

Red-necked Grebe

A Red-necked Grebe adult feeds a dragon fly to one of three chicks.  This family of grebes nested at my parents place – I stopped and saw them briefly at the beginning of my trip to Southeast this summer – they were so fun to watch, I could have stayed and photographed them for days!

I think I have seen now in trhee years a red neck grebe in my office yard in Humble, TX.

Please send me your email address and I will send you my pictures of both the male and female that I took 7/26/2010. Hopefully you can Identify the bird. the female has apprrently been scared off the nest by yard maintenance people and may not return. However I got a good look at them and I have never before seen a duck, loon, crane or otherwise in Texas or anywhere else that looks like them.
