It has been a cold, snowy winter here in Alaska recently, and although we haven’t had near the snowfall that has put Cordova in the news lately, we have had our share.  Yesterday in particular it snowed extra hard blanketing the harbor with snow and ice.  So after doing a lot of shoveling, I grabbed my camera and cruised around town grabbing some images.

  1. Now sit right back and hear a tale, a tale of a snowy trip…….
Ron, just what kind of connections do you really have with Mother Nature? You want sun, you get sun, you want snow, and voila, snow.
You have royal permission to use the snow blower on this one!
Here in southern Ontario, we managed to get 21/2 cm(about an inch) so far this year. I would like to take my ron skills outside and try to get some good shooting in.
    Happy hot chocolate days!

    Hi Milo,

I think we got about 2 feet yesterday, but today we also are at 33 degrees and light rain. You guys have been all over the national news – pretty cool!

Hi Michael, LOL – you know, the blog might be a bit misleading as I only post the times the weather “works”. 🙂 Was talking to a photographer from Ontario last night – he says your weather is still like fall weather. Crazy.

  3. Ron, stop taking all of California’s precipitation! 😉 Seems like the high pressure system we have keeps pushing everything up north to you.

I was in Yosemite this past weekend and there was no snow, even Tioga Pass was still open with no snow even at the highest elevations… So next time you’re out, calve off an iceberg and send it down our way…

  4. hey Ron

You’re at 33deg today? Yikes. That’ll be a mess. We have another foot or so forecast today/tonight.

The boat harbor shot is cool.

@ Carl Thanks. Yes, rained all day. Nothing like rain when there is no place for it to go, and you know it is about to freeze. 🙁 Now it has turned back to snow and is coming down hard again. Sounds like you are in store for a bunch.

@ Greg I saw your post – that is crazy! I think you are right, high pressure has that jet stream coming way up North. Watch your mail for that ice berg. 🙂

  6. Nice, I love snow – one of the very few things I miss here…but at least we get as much rain as you do in the summer!! They are beautiful pictures – fresh, ohhhh I miss snow so much…

@ Rolf I do like the snow as well, I figure if I’m going to put up with winter – give me lots of snow! Thanks.

@ Jim – Thanks. Yes, I’m sure that is very comfortable and that your back isn’t nearly as sore as mine right now. 🙂

  8. Love the image of the harbor. Looks like quite the contrast from my summer images of it. I know some people like living in the snow, but I don’t miss the Northern winters one bit!
