Actually this is a jackrabbit, so maybe I should have titled this Silly Wack-wabbit. 🙂
Seems like at the end of a trip we start evaluating our travel plans and methods. Our trips outside Alaska to the Lower 48 have typically been fairly long trips for a couple of reasons.  For one, the airfare is usually the most expensive part of any trip. In addition, we often need to spend the night between our flight day and the drive to and from Anchorage, so this means most trips take almost two days on each end of travel, especially in the winter. Not to mention the stress of traveling with over 200 pounds of cloths and expensive computers and camera equipment.  So it has always made sense to take fewer, longer trips.
In the past, when we traveled in our small camper, or slept in a rental car, 6 weeks was about typically our longest trip. Yep – I spent 6 weeks sleeping in a rental car – for some reason Janine didn’t want to go on that one!
As our business has grown, it has become more difficult to keep up with business while on the road with our little camper – you may have remember this old post. Seemed like a good part of each day was spent in an Internet cafe taking care of business. So this past year we upgraded to a trailer, and this has made working on the road much easier. We try to find a campground with wifi, and use that as a home base.Â
So using a trailer has allowed us to take a little longer trips – our travels last Spring and Autumn were both two months in length. This trip went almost 2 and a half months which was maybe a week too long, we think two months was probably the ideal length. That might in part have to do with the fact the desert wildflowers are now gone and it is getting hot down here – and I’m hearing reports of Golden Plovers and Varied Thrush arriving back home!

What a cool picture of the rabbit. I love rabbits. You got a great shot of his profile, & the landscape around him, well, it all comes together to make a great picture. I bet you & Janine love having that trailer. That must be so cool traveling around like that & doing something you both love. Good luck on gas prices!! And stay safe!
WOW 2 months! I get home sick after 10 days! LOL

Thanks Ladies!
You know it is always nice to go home – I don’t know how these full-time travelers do it.

Hey Ron, A nice little bunny shot – the backlit ear is pretty sweet. Be safe on the ride home – dragging a trailer back to Alaska must take forever and like Beth said, the gas is gonna sting a little! Good Luck!
2.5 months is almost full-time enough. The longest trip I’ve ever done was 21 days and after 18, it was getting exhausting mentally. The fulltimers probably don’t live in a place as interesting as you do though so its easier to want to be away.

Thanks Rick,
Actually, I’m leaving the trailer with in-laws near Palm Springs – the drive to Alaska is a very long, but very beautiful. This time we are flying.
Hi Richard,
You know I was thinking the same thing, although yesterday I meet some full-timers from Canmore, Alberta in the Canadian Rockies – that is an awesome area, but these folks seemed to have picked up a love for the desert.
lol, there is that too. I don’t really know of any Californians that love the desert, but the people I’ve met that do usually aren’t from here.
Isn’t the title REALLY supposed to be WASCALLY Wack Wabbit? 😉
Nice photo, and especially of the previous woodpecker entry as well!
Having slept in a car only a few times in my life, I can only imagine the misery in spending 6 weeks in one!!!
Re: this shot – I have always liked wabbit shots with their ears glowing – very cool Ron.
