Richard, the red color is some type of bacteria - you see it on the snow near the glaciers around Kenai Fjords National Park as well - especially towards the end of summer. Around here it can get kind of thick as it accumulates in low spots. Since this is from the air, I would say it must be pretty thick in this area as well. Thanks guys!

With no sense of scale, I wouldn't have known what the object of the image was. As abstract art though the object is not important, right?
