Down stream from the Hoover Dam in the Black Canyon is one of the few places outside of the Grand Canyon where the Colorado River still sorta flows, albeit much slower then it would normally. Saturday we went on a kayaking trip on this stretch of river and it was a blast! We have done a lot of kayaking in the past, but never in sandals and shorts – thanks to the 80 degree weather, that was a real treat!
Next time we are in the area I think we will start from the Hoover Dam and make a two or three day trip out of it so that we can camp along the river at night – that would really be fun!

That sounds like a great trip Ron. Do you need a permit for a multi day paddle?
It looks like it would be a lot of fun. A little warmer than when you go in Alaska. Both shots are very nice too- Ron

Thanks Ryan. You do need a permit to launch from the Hoover Dam, but it doesn’t sound like they are too hard to get.
Thanks Dennis – yes, much warmer!
I’ve always wanted to paddle that section. It sure looks beautiful. There are hot springs in there that are supposed to be very nice, at least in the cooler season.

I understand the are hot springs on both sides of the river – those would be fun to visit!
Ron, sounds like great fun! I don’t recall ever kayaking in anything but shorts & sandals, other than at night or in the rain. Then, I put my fleece on! 🙂
Have fun and don’t work too hard!!!

Looks like a great way to spend your time. Nice stuff.
Cheers

Thanks everyone – that is a fun time!
These pictures are amazing because from the only time I have seen the Colorado River was from a hike in the Grand Canyon and that was difficult. But these pictures show the perspective great because I can really see the height of the mountains.
It’s like Alaska in the Summertime.

But even warmer Jim!
Thanks Molly, that must of been a wonderful hike!
Epic scenery on the river helps make epic photos!
