Pumpkin Patch, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California.

This is such an interesting, almost lunar like place.  I waited until after sunset and the lite the pumpkins with a flash light during a 30 second exposure.  I have wanted to try this technique at this location for some time – it just seemed appropriate for some reason.

You know, if you come in from S22 it isn’t too bad. You don’t need 4 wheel drive anyway. I could give you directions if you are interested.

  2. Thanks Ron. i don’t have a tent anymore (ants chewed it up in the eastern sierra) so i booked a room in indio next weekend. so ill be around next weekend. I’ll probably come in from Temecula on Saturday and thru the Salton Sea direction on Sunday.

  3. Hello Ron!

I love your blog and have been reading your most recent entries about Anza-Borrego. I am planning a day trip out there with some friends to photograph the wildflowers the weekend of March 8. Are there currently any full blooms? If I only had a day, where in Anza Borrego do you recommend visiting? We’ve never been before.

    Thanks!

    Hi Richard,

Let me know if you do, I would meet you for lunch or something.

    Thanks Denny!

The best places right now are along Henderson Canyon Road, but the last few days it has been improving really quickly thanks to the warm weather.

I think the weekend you are coming should be perfect. Keep following the blog – I should have more to report as the week progresses, but for a one day trip I would drive at least halfway to Salton Sea on S22 – that area is getting better. Drive Henderson Canyon Road which is right in town, and maybe hike Palm Canyon Trail – lots of water there right now.

    Have fun!

  5. lunch next Saturday sounds good. Here’s my cell: (626) 422-6151 Don’t know if I’ll have reception out there so we’ll probably have to email beforehand.

  6. I haven’t been to Anza-Borrego myself recently, my last visit there was in May ’07. But on the wildflower report they’re reporting that Coyote Canyon is in full bloom. I hiked up Coyote Canyon to the Desert Gardens there on my last trip. It’s a fun hike!

    Thanks Senior Erik,

I was up that canyon about a week ago – but it looks like it has gotten a whole lot better since then! Thanks for that link!
