Finger Lake, Wasilla, Alaska.
This was from Friday in Wasilla. We went up there for some photography, and to visit my parents and sister’s family. Ironically, Wasilla became famous on this same day when John McCain selected Sarah Palin for his running mate. I probably should have stuck around for some more photography of the area because it will probably be in demand, but it was sunny, and I was anxious to photograph landscapes back in Seward. Those should show up here in a couple of days.
I gotta say, it was almost surreal to see Sarah’s husband, Todd Palin standing up there on national TV smiling and waving to the crowd. You see I have known Todd for some 30 years – since we were kids growing up in Glennallen. Guys I hung out with drinking beer and doing other crazy things just don’t seem to grow up and appear on national TV! Well at least until now. To see him standing there with his little daughter, a girl that plays with my little niece, suddenly made the world seem very small.
I sure don’t envy what they are about to go through, but I do look forward to one day, probably many years from now, sitting down and hearing his stories!

Welcome from my neck of the woods! I finally met your parents last weekend at the State Fair – very nice people, and I see where your talent stems from. Your mother had the most impressive collections at the fair, and it was great to finally meet her.

Thanks Dave I appreciate it! They are pretty nice people, too bad I didn’t bump into you there.

Man o man, that looks like a beautiful place to be. You’re killing me with it being near 100 degrees down here! That is a serious come visit brochure photo, imo.
That’s amazing! It certainly promises to be an interesting politcal season!!
Cheers,

That is good to hear Laurent – not the 100 degrees, but about being a come to visit brochure photo, as that was what we were hoping for. Thanks. Now if we could just split the difference it temperature between here and Tucson.
I think you are right Gary.
Funny how the small world thing works huh? my doctor from when I was a child ended up Governor here for a while LOL
Looking at your photo makes me think of my 15 year old. He wants a kayak so bad, and he wants me to get one to! LOL haha I can’t even get comfortable on our 18 foot boat LOL
Hope you had a great visit

Hi Doris,
Kayaks are fun – I can see why your son wants one. They can also be very tippy – I can understand your reluctance! The is one of my parent’s kayaks, they are a bit wider then normal, and very stable and easy to use. You might like one like this. The nice thing about kayaks, the are quite, quick and nimble – and the equals fun!
Thanks,
Ron
Hey Ron,
Where’d you find all that sunshine?
Glad you had a good trip.
Cheers

Welcome back Carl,
This was a one day wonder – and we spent most of it driving from Wasilla to Seward!
Small world… well maybe not so small in Alaska. I’ll second the comment this will certainly be an interesting political season. She will certainly be a lightning rod for discussion on very divisive issues. Tonights speech and synopsis from the various heads is but the beginning
That’s really cool that you’ve known Todd Palin that long. I bet that was a trip seeing him on national t.v.!!!

I agree Jim, it should be interesting.
Yeah Beth, it was a real trip! It still doesn’t seem real.
